Café Brand Identity - Sharjah Hero

Olah Café is a modern coffee shop in Sharjah offering artisanal coffee and desserts. When the owners came to Mike Rock Studio, the product quality was already there. What was missing was a brand capable of communicating that quality clearly and consistently in a UAE market where established competitors have significant visual presence and new openings need to make an immediate impression. Mike Rock Studio built the complete brand from scratch: identity, packaging, signage, interior design consultation, menus, and digital presence, a full turnkey branding solution for a café that needed to arrive in the market fully formed.

The Challenge:

The food and beverage sector in the UAE is one of the most visually competitive environments a new brand can enter. Sharjah's café market in particular has grown rapidly, with consumers who expect a considered brand experience rather than simply a place to buy coffee. For Olah Café, the risk of a fragmented or inconsistent visual identity was not abstract: in a high-traffic sector where first impressions are formed in seconds and word of mouth travels fast, a brand that doesn't hold together across every touchpoint loses ground quickly to competitors that do.

The owners needed more than a logo. They needed a fully articulated brand experience: one that communicated premium quality and modern warmth from the external signage through the takeaway cup to the digital presence, with enough consistency that every encounter with the brand reinforced the same impression.

The Approach:

The visual direction was built around the two things Olah Café does best: coffee and desserts. The logo development blended minimalist lines with subtle references to coffee bean forms and local cultural shapes, keeping the mark clean and contemporary without stripping it of character. A sans-serif typographic choice gave the identity sophistication and readability across every application at every scale.

The palette was drawn directly from the product: warm browns, rich golds, and soft cream hues that evoke the coffee and dessert offering while communicating comfort and warmth to the customer deciding whether to step inside. In a competitive retail environment, a colour palette that connects immediately to what a brand sells and how it makes you feel is not a subtle choice — it is the most direct possible communication a brand can make at the point of discovery.

The scope extended into the physical space. Working alongside the interior designers, the branding was integrated into the café's atmosphere rather than simply applied to its surfaces, ensuring that the visual identity informed the environment rather than sitting on top of it. Packaging, signage, and menus were all developed from the same visual foundation, turning every product, every surface, and every customer interaction into a consistent expression of the same brand.

Project FAQ

What does a new café need from its brand identity on day one?

Consistency across every touchpoint a customer encounters before, during, and after their first visit. A new café cannot rely on reputation or word of mouth in its first weeks of operation. The brand has to do all of that work from the first day: the exterior signage communicates whether it is worth stepping inside, the interior environment communicates whether it is worth staying, the packaging communicates whether it is worth coming back, and the digital presence communicates whether it is worth telling someone else about. When all of those touchpoints carry the same visual quality and the same consistent identity, they compound. When they don't, they undermine each other.

How do you integrate a brand identity into a café interior?

By treating the brand and the space as the same design problem from the beginning rather than applying the brand to a finished interior. When a visual identity is developed in parallel with the spatial design, the palette informs material choices, the typographic system informs signage scale and placement, and the overall brand atmosphere shapes decisions about lighting, texture, and layout. The result is an environment where the brand feels embedded rather than applied, which is the difference between a café that has a visual identity and one that feels like a brand experience. The former is a logo on a wall. The latter is a place customers associate with a specific feeling.

How do you build a café brand that stands out in the UAE market?

Through visual coherence and a clear, immediate communication of what the café is and who it is for. The UAE café market is competitive and visually sophisticated, with consumers who encounter dozens of branded environments every week and have a well-developed sense of what quality and consistency look like. A brand that holds together across every touchpoint, from the exterior sign to the inside of the takeaway cup, signals that the café behind it takes its standards seriously. In a market where the quality of the coffee is increasingly assumed, the brand experience is often what converts a first-time visitor into a regular.
